Exercise

Recently I've rekindled my passion for working out. Summer makes exercising fun, which is a huge thing for me because I get bored going to a gym. Instead I get to ride my bike, go hiking and walk around town. I've also started doing pilates which has left me really sore. To make things even more exciting, I just found a bunch of yoga videos. Having a few options is great because I don't like to do the same workout every day.

I'd love to know what you do to stay in shape. Let me know if you have fun, unique ways to stay healthy that I can try. I also want to know how you stay motivated on days when sitting on the couch sounds like way more fun than working out!

I have been trying to exercise as well--I would agree that it is easier in the summer! What I enjoy, however, is a quiet jog through the country roads. Only the crunching sound of the gravel beneath my feet can be heard...that is, until a car drives past me and kicks the dust into my face.

Moon July 28, 2009

I jog when the weather is warm!! So winter is my fat-accumulating period!! ugh~ but i join dancing class, although i am definitely not a good dancer!! it does help me stay in shape a bit, and learn a new skills, so why not? haha.

Love swimming by the way!

Nothing is works better for me than running. It's free, it gets me outside, I can bring my dog and I can do it anywhere, even in the rain if it's not too bad.

Kristin July 28, 2009

I have been a die-hard exerciser for more years that I can remember, and since I've been pregnant the one thing I've missed so much is running. There is nothing like lacing up your sneaks for an early morning jog, before everyone else is awake, before it's too hot, just when it's me and my thoughts. My balance to running has been yoga for many years now and I also do strength training. I always feel great after a workout -- no matter which it is, and that high stays with me all day!

Hey Mishka
Lovely blog, I am also trying to make mine about loving little things in life! (I'm new at blogging).
In my blog there is an article about weight lifting for women; and not to fear bulking up. But what you're doing is great start: exercising in a way you enjoy. And if you have digital cable, there is a great channel for free exercise on demand that you can try. I'll be coming back to your blog :P
By the way, your link on 'about what I said' sends one to ohmiska.blogspot instead of ohmishka...
Have an awesome day!

Hi Michelle, I love to switch it up in order to stay motivated to exercise. Swimming, yoga, running, you name it. This summer I was introduced to Zumba at my local YMCA which is a cardio dance class that is SO fun- you dont even realize you are working out. They have classes across the country you can see if they have one in Bozemen, maybe? Check it out here, zumba.com

brooke July 28, 2009

well i am definitely a fan of pilates...but i also am obsessed with jillian michael's the shred as well as the concept two rower...these three things i cannot live without!

Sam Reynolds July 28, 2009

Surfing...it's actually THE best workout, and heaps of fun too. You'll use muscles you never knew you had. What could be better than spending a day out in the sun, in the sea.

Amanda Nicole July 28, 2009

I'm the same way. I hate bland exercise routines, so in the summer I like to get outside. I walk the seawall (takes about 2 1/2 hours) at least once a week, and I also love kayaking when I can.

Lola Lakely July 28, 2009

I'm lucky. My gym has some fantastic classes that I take advantage of. With loud music and varying routines, it serves to never make me feel bored. I like their kick boxing and spin classes the most.

I do also have a penchant for long, long walks with a friend. Those are always quite fun as well!

Michelle July 28, 2009

I love the spring, summer and fall because that's when it's easiest to take my horse out. I'm also very in to running and weight listing all year. As for those days when I really don't feel like doing anything, I try to at least take a long walk. Finding a work out buddy was a help too because he and I can usually convince each other to hit the gym. Also, never underestimate how much work playing with little kids can be! Grab a cousin or neighbor's kids and just have fun!

PoeticNinJaBrit July 28, 2009

Well I actually have been working out since last fall when I came break to school from summer vacation.
I did it to get healthier, and all together I've lost about 35 lbs.
I love to hear people say they can see the results, but also I love it more that I can see it through my clothes and the mirror.
I really just use the gym on my campus, since I do pay for it out of my tuition.
I also eat alot of grains, veggies, and health nut foods.
And water is the key.
I really don't know how I'm motivated to do it...I always speak to myself "this is for the future, I must fit in a wedding gown" :).

Belly dancing!

I'm on video lesson #10 on www.bellydanceboulevard.com. It's the most fun workout I've ever tried, and my abs have had an extreme makeover after just a few weeks! My husband enjoys the results, too. :)

I plan to keep it up until I have a child, because supposedly belly dance was developed to help with childbirth and recovery. But it's fun for child-free ladies, too.

just blog walking..come to follow your blog.:)

tricia July 28, 2009

I completely understand the idea of going to a gym being boring. I like working out by running and different parks, having work-out videos (even though the pace on them is way to fast lol)and playing different sports.

It is great finding ways to be active without always thinking of it as "working out." Riding bikes is a lot of fun, playing basketball and swimming are all ways to be active with not viewing it as a chore of working out.

Just keep it fun!

Olivia Rae July 28, 2009

yoga and biking are great!! anything to not be in the gym. i also looove swimming laps because no ugly work out clothes, and you never sweat!

Michelle July 28, 2009

I'm loving all these ideas!

As much as the idea of surfing and swimming sounds fun, I'm super terrified of water. I'll leave that one up to you guys! :)

Jessie July 28, 2009

i do zumba! it is the best exercise and so much fun! i'm addicted!

nifer July 28, 2009

Currently, I also take a Zumba class, and I take my dog for daily walks around the neighborhood. I'm trying to get back into a home Yoga and strength training practice. During the school year, I take ballet classes, which are a great combination of cardio and flexibility training. I can easily become unmotivated, so I try to stay enrolled in at least one class. If you pay for it, especially with friends, you're going to go!

In the summer, I love to play tennis with my boyfriend; I'm not very good at it, but we get a good workout, a few good laughs, and it is quality time spent together!

Lynn from For Love or Funny July 28, 2009

I love to walk my dog, play tennis, and play golf. Two days a week, I visit a personal trainer for Pilates. I love it when activity is fun - I HATE repetitive, boring exercise!

Kim July 28, 2009

I take a yoga class every Thursday, and I do it at home a few days a week. I also volunteer at an animal shelter because I love dogs and get to take them for long walks, which benefits me AND them. One of my favorite silly activities is putting on music and dancing around with a pair of dumbbells in my hands, doing some squats or lunges or a set of arm/shoulder moves when they fit with the beat of the song. As far as motivation goes, tell yourself you'll make it short. Once you get started it's usually easy to keep going.

I like to just put music on and dance. haha call me a dork but, it works. (:

J.Me. July 28, 2009

I'm actually having a difficult time staying motivated...I'm going to blame it on my job draining my emotional energy...I'm a social worker. ANYWAY. I LOVE hiking, biking, and running. I love walking to get somewhere, because I can look at houses on the way there...and I accomplished something...And you always have to walk back, too! =) I need to get motivated! We have a trail in our town, but unfortunately there have been some jerks mugging and flashing people---mid-day. So, I'm staying away from that. I'm excited for your motivation rekindled! <3

Tara July 28, 2009

Pilates is GREAT and once you get past the soreness, it's actually really fun. I have been doing the 10 Minute Solution workout - http://www.sabretara.blogspot.com/2009/07/pilates-plug.html

I'm starting to see results that make me very happy :)

Bee's Knees July 28, 2009

Well, when you live in Florida you might as well take advantage of the endless heat so I swim, lots. I should swim more, actually, but some days it doesn't pay to change into your suit.

And when we're really feeling up to it we watch Gilad on FitTV, he always makes you break a sweat.

tiffuhthephotog July 28, 2009

im not that big on going to the gym. running is actually very fun. i've gotten more into it since summer started.

Oh Mishka!

Being a couch potato is the best form of exercise I can think of..hehe..

I do yoga sometimes but not regularly. Though I am planning on a strict yoga routine..we'll see..

Then again, I live on the 6th floor and there aren't any elevators so that's an exercise already..:D And I love cycling!!

Good luck with your exercise regime:)

PS: Cool Blog.

Hey--Have you seen my newest blogpost? Check it out.

It's relatable...

Justthe July 28, 2009

I box :) its soooo good!

Darcy July 28, 2009

I love to pop into ExerciseTV on demand, it's one of the options on my cable...not sure if it's on yours. BUT i LOVE it because I too need to change things up all the time to stay into exercise. They have a lot of completely free ones you can just watch right then, and all sorts of fun ones like Belly Dancing, gentle stretching, and even Cardioke ;-)

georgie July 29, 2009

well i have been doing yoga at the gym, which is kind of annoying because in an ideal world exercise would not revolve the gym. to get motivated i find that leaving the house to say go shopping will lead to exercise because once you have left the house there is no excuse, once you are out you may as well use the day for exercise! i tend to trick myself into like that. say you "need" chocolate. well why not bike to the shop to get it, and WAH BAM! exercise magically happened!!!

Pixie In The SkY July 29, 2009

it's so stupid that I can't ride a bike... it would be so fun in this time of the year... but instead I run or walk,so I guess it has it's positive sites =)
Every day, even if I don't have the inner strenght to go out jogging or stuff I do 3 exercises, that are very simple and can be done in less than 15 minutes - I squat (about 20 times), I do about 50 stomach presses (I don't know if it's so in english) and I incline on the left and on the right, trying to reach my knees with my hands (about 40 times).

Kerree July 29, 2009

I coach cheerleading which leaves me absolutely panting at the end of it. And my motivation to go is the image of lots of disappointed little faces if I don't go

Tonke July 29, 2009

well i try to jog around.. I take my bike when it is possleble :) And i'm still looking for a new group sport...

But i had a question for you..
What kind of camera do you use?
Cause i like your pictures! And i want to buy a camera by myself.

2busy July 29, 2009

I love breaking out in a workout sweat. It assures me I am doing something good for myself. I enjoy running, but my 40 year old body is starting to say "no". I go to the gym and do the elliptical, bike and walk hills on the treadmill. I throw in some weights, too. On those "I don't want to go to the gym" days Yoga videos work for me. I also use Wii fit. Not to strenuous of exercise, but fun. It gets me off my butt.

Responding to your comment;

Awesome--I'd really like that! Thanks!

I needed out of that hell hole! I think the people were shocked I cancelled it. ha ha

Have a great day!

Charlene July 29, 2009

I recently bought a treadmill on Craigslist for $40 and I LOVE it! Also, I really enjoy the "Yoga Booty Ballet" workouts from beachbody.com

Best of luck to you!

A Fitness Minute with Pat Anderson July 29, 2009

Hanging out with people who like to exercise will help to keep you motivated. Variety is the key to seeing results. It doesn't really matter what you do as long as you do some form of cardio exercise and some type of resistance training. Good luck with your program.

Iva July 29, 2009

I am all about fitness :)

Casey July 30, 2009

RUNNING!! seriously the best way to get in touch with your body and mind. Alone, with friends, quiet or with the ipod, nothing beats running.
If you really want an intense workout, grab a jogging stroller and one of your friends kids. Pushing that thing will whip you into shap in no time! As and added bonus, my daughter sings songs to my son and me while we go.
