blueberry crumb bars

Yesterday I woke up extra early so that I could make the most of my last full weekday of freedom before my summer classes start. I had brunch with a friend, ran a few catch-up errands, packed for yet another exciting weekend in Montana (this time with Jordan's family), drank probably too much coffee, and baked blueberry crumb bars.

I spotted these bars on Smitten Kitchen a few days ago, and have been thinking about them nonstop. So I picked up some blueberries and blackberries when I was at the store, and adapted the recipe to use both berries. They turned out absolutely perfect, and are surprisingly refreshing for summer. The lemon in the recipe balances everything out beautifully; I couldn't recommend them more.

Other highlights of my low-key Friday: freckles, light leggings and cotton tank dresses, getting the oil changed in my car without the guy trying to sell me all sorts of stuff just because I'm a girl, messy hair and lipstick, homemade iced coffee, clear blue skies, waking up to extra cuddles from Danny cat, turning a pair of old jeans into cute cut-offs, emails with friends who understand me perfectly, and finding my old Best of the Beach Boys cd.

(ok, i realize i could easily make them myself but...it's more convenient to blame the world on these types of things.)

I love that first photo! The purple is so vivid :D
This is why I avoid getting the oil changed in my car - I hate telling those guys "no" like 50 times in a half hour. It's so irritating!!
