Honeymoon Mornings at the Beach (on Film!)

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Since we were going to the beach for our honeymoon, we decided to buy a bunch of waterproof disposable cameras to document our week in Cancun. These are some of the pictures from our days at the beach.

I love the grainy, imperfect quality of all of our pictures. It sure made me miss shooting with film, which was my first photography love. The smell of the darkroom, even though it's sure potent, is still one of my favorite things. I'm even thinking about getting an old SLR and starting to shoot with film again!

The honeymoon itself was amazing. We went to an all-inclusive resort and we loved it. I read some mixed reviews about all-inclusive places, but ours was absolutely perfect. We spent our mornings lounging on the beach, drinks always in hand, and afternoons by the pool. I read on my Kindle and Jordan swam around like a fish. I even faced my ridiculous phobia of bodies of water (sharks, mostly) and went waist-deep in the ocean! And I only cried a little bit.

I think we need to make honeymoons an annual thing. :)
Where did you go on your honeymoon, or where do you hope to someday go?

  1. We went on a cruise around the Caribbean, it was the best! I've also been to that area of MExico and it is so beautiful and wonderful!

  2. My husband and I were married last September (I can't believe it's almost been a year already!), but we took a late honeymoon in May. We decided to take a cruise since we had never been on one. Our cruise went to Catalina Island, CA and Ensenada, Mexico, it was blast! Cruising was a big step for me because I'm also terrified of large bodies of water, but I had faith that our ship would stay afloat. It wasn't bad at all, you don't even realize you're in the middle of the ocean half the time because you're having fun and the ship is so big in calm waters you cant even tell you're moving. Catalina Island was BEAUTIFUL, we're definately going back for a vacation just on the island. Ensenada was fun, but Mexico is so sketchy haha.
When I was 16 my family &I went to an all inclusive resort in Cancun, it was amazing! The water there is perfect and so pretty. The hotel itself was beautiful. Plus, whats not to love about all you can eat &drink?! Which hotel did you guys stay at?

  9. Great photos! That's a really good idea to get disposable waterproof cameras - I'll have to remember that next time we're vacationing near the beach. My husband and I went to Orlando, FL for our honeymoon so we could be at the grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. :)

  15. I love these!!! Beautiful shots. :D They "feel" so relaxing, haha.

Jen and I honeymooned first in The Excalibur where we were married, however her parents paid and could only afford one night, so the rest of our honeymoon was spent at my favorite RV resort ever: The Oasis in Las Vegas!!!

  17. Such great photos!! We're actually planning our honeymoon now, and have been looking at going to Excellence in Cancun! Couple Qs for you: did you have to get up early to save loungers? How was the food? They say tips are included, but sometimes you really have to tip: was that the case? Thanks!!

    1. Excellence was AMAZING! We kept saying that it ruined other resorts for us because it was so perfect.

We read the same reviews about loungers and tips, but it really wasn't an issue. We usually got up and ate breakfast around 9 or 10, then headed down to the beach. There were always tons of chairs still open. Same with the pools, except for around the pool that has the swim-up bar. Those filled up really early, but we avoided that pool most of the time anyway because there was always super loud music from someone's iPod player.

The food was great. We were there for 5 nights, so we didn't get to have dinner at all the restaurants, but everywhere we ate was amazing. The Lobster House wasn't my favorite, but I loved Basmati, The Spice Market, Agave, and Chez Isabelle. For breakfast and lunch, definitely check out Barcelona! They have a huge buffet with omelette stations for breakfast and a million other options. So great.

Tipping is kind of iffy. We brought some cash that we'd gotten as a wedding gift so we could tip when we wanted to. You never ever have to, and they never pressure you to, but we tipped the servers who brought us drinks on the beach and at dinner each night, along with the bellhop and the driver from the airport. But if you don't want to, they never treat you anything less than amazing still.

      I can't recommend it enough!
