Our Story

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Today is my wedding day. I get to marry my best friend. Jordan is my favorite person, incredibly smart, someone I admire more than words can say, and he is the stability that makes me feel safe and loved every single day.

I thought about dedicating this post to how much I love Jordan, but I think that's already obvious. Any special words I have for him today, I'll tell him in person. Instead, I'll tell your our story. Over the past four years that I've had my blog, I don't think I've ever talked about how our relationship started.

When I was 20, two of my friends and I went to a party after one of my friends was invited by a boy in her class. The "party" turned out to just be Jordan and his friend drinking. We stayed anyway and met Jordan, his friend Remus, and a couple of their friends that night. My friend Meg started dating Remus, so of course she spent time with his group of friends, a lot of whom he knew from high school.

I didn't see any of them much for the next 6 months because I'd moved to Wyoming for a little while. Once I got back, Meg and I found an apartment together and became roomies. The more I hung out with her and Remus, the more time I spent hanging out with his friends too. So Jordan and I go to know each other from being at the same parties or floating trips.
During a lot of that time, I was dating someone else. Jordan and I were obviously never anything more than friends; he was just a great friend to hang out with at parties. A few days after I broke up with the guy I'd been dating, I celebrated my 21st birthday with a group of friends. Jordan was there, of course, and he even bought me a drink. We were at Santa Fe Red's and he bought me some blue drink called The Screaming Monkey. It was awful, so I made him share it with me. :)

We spent the next couple of months hanging out, both with our groups of friends and sometimes just the two of us. I didn't want to rush into a new relationship, so we were both happy to just spend time together. Eventually, on November 11th, he invited me over to watch Little Miss Sunshine. After the movie, I was going to head home, but he stopped me on his front porch. Jordan asked me out in the most endearing way ever and the rest is history!

Jordan asked me to be his girlfriend on November 11, 2007, proposed in December 2011, and we'll become husband and wife today, on July 7, 2012.

Oh, and my friend Meg, who was the reason that Jordan and I ever got to know each other? She's my maid of honor. We've known each other since kindergarten and I couldn't be happier to have such an amazing friend standing next to me while I marry the man of my dreams.

I am over the top excited to spend the rest of my life with Jordan. It's crazy to think that someday this will all be a distant memory, and we'll be worrying about children or grandkids instead. I can't wait.
