Help Us Save Animals

Monday, August 20, 2012

As you all know, I am a huge animal lover. All of my cats have been adopted from shelters and pounds. When we lived in Gillette, I wanted to volunteer at the county animal shelter, but couldn't bring myself to do it because they weren't a no-kill shelter. It would destroy me to see countless animals being put down just because there wasn't room for them. I've had the same problem here. In fact, the pound in Soda Springs has a 3-day kill policy. Seriously. After THREE DAYS they kill any animals that haven't been adopted. Thankfully, I just found out that the lady who owns a local coffee shop is starting a no-kill animal shelter. Naturally, I'm getting as involved as possible.

The shelter, which will be called Comfort Creatures, is in its initial stages of forming. Right now it doesn't even have official nonprofit status because we need $500 to get that certification. Once that happens, all donations will be tax deductible, which will hopefully spur people to donate more.

I told Sheri, the shelter's founder, that I'd help out in any way I could. So I built the new shelter a website, Twitter, Facebook page, and, most importantly, a donations page. In order to get this shelter started as soon as possible so that we can save as many animals as possible, I've set a deadline on the donations page. We need to raise the $500 to become a certified nonprofit by September 16. That's in 25 days.

This is where my blog comes in. If you, my wonderfully amazing readers, could help out in any way, I will be forever grateful. Obviously, we'd appreciate donations the most. But if you could also share this link, tweet about our cause, or let other animals lovers know what we're trying to do, I will love you forever. Please. I know a lot of you are animal lovers just like me, so please keep in mind that we're trying to provide a humane, no-kill alternative to the pound that kills animals after 3 days.

    1. Oh yay! We'd love it if you could help share the word with some of your friends in Soda. The more people here we can get on board the better. :)

  5. Yeah! Looks like God put you there in that place for a reason. I'm so excited that you get to help save those little animals. I've never understood non-no-kill shelters. So sad. We've gotten so many of our cats from no-kill shelters and it's such a blessing to be able to give a little cute fluffball a home!
