One Week : No Bread Update

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

So far, my week of not eating any bread is going pretty well. Although, the first day was a lot harder than I expected! Having any sort of dietary restrictions (like when I gave up sugar for Lent the past 2 years) makes me pay more attention to my eating habits. A lot of what I eat is due to boredom or random cravings, not because I'm actually hungry, it turns out. So dealing with those on Sunday was pretty rough. Especially after I saw the box of pancake mix in the pantry that I forgot I bought last week!

Instead of giving into processed-food cravings, I've been focusing on making delicious meals out of real, whole foods instead. These are some of the meals and snacks I've eaten over the past couple days.

quinoa & strawberries
cookie dough & oatmeal
omelette

Thankfully, Monday was a lot easier. I'm not sure if it's because my body is already adjusting to not consuming refined flour, or if I'm just remembering how much I like to cook and eat real food. Either way, I'll take it. :)

I'll share some of these recipes soon, like the "cookie dough" balls that are made from oatmeal. I also made a soup that I might share. It's not photographing well though, so we'll just see if I can get better shots from the leftovers or not. Right now it looks pretty unappetizing (but it's incredibly delicious).

Thanks for all the encouraging comments and tweets, by the way! It's a lot easier to do a challenge like this when I can keep myself accountable on my blog.

  1. I can go for weeks without bread and sometimes i'll crave it and scoff loads in one go. Keep up the good work. x

  2. I"ve been doing this too. My recommendation? Do it for longer than a week. It takes longer than that (about 30 days) for your body to "reset" and begin to heal. You'll notice a difference. Promise :)

  3. Your quinoa/bean/egg dish looks super yum! Love eggs with hot sauce!

These are also delicious for a "dessert" that doesn't have refined ingredients (just raisins, walnuts, dates, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt!)
