One Week : No Bread

For the next week, I'm challenging myself to not eat any bread, and you're more than welcome to join me!

I've been paying more attention to my eating habits recently and, to be honest, I'm kind of grossed out. The amount of processed food in my life lately is over the top. And of course the more I eat, the more I crave it. Bread is the worst offender, too. Anything made with flour? You can bet that I love it. Toast, tortillas, and oh, the pasta. There was a day very recently that I ate boxed mac and cheese for two meals...and no fruits or vegetables all day! Who am I becoming?!

So starting today, continuing through Saturday, I am giving up all forms of bread for the week. While I'm not planning to go fully gluten-free (I'll still use soy sauce, for example), I'm definitely cutting out anything that is made primarily from flour. I plan to eat more quinoa, brown rice, and a lot more beans instead. The oddest part of this is that those are all foods I love, but I haven't been eating them because flour-based foods always sound more appealing for some reason.

My hope is that by cutting out breads for a week, my body and my food cravings will reset and I'll get back to enjoying whole foods that I love, without feeling deprived of processed flour foods. And let's be real, I sure wouldn't mind it if I felt and looked less full (read: bloated) after every meal, too.

I'll post some pictures of healthy meals that I eat throughout the week, just to keep myself accountable and have a visual representation of my progress. If anyone wants to join me, I'd love to hear about your week too!

  1. you can totally do this. I ate super clean for three days and I felt 10 million times better. It's crazy how much your body loves the healthy food after awhile.

I think it's the brain that is the problem.

For instance... I just ate a peach for dessert but my brain is saying "Oh Aubrey, there's a dark chocolate Toblerone in the fridge....and i want it badly".

    1. Definitely! I used to eat super healthy all the time, but slipped into really unhealthy, processed foods this past year or so. And I never used to have crazy junk food cravings like I do now!

  3. Yay, good for you! It's possible that I may have a gluten allergy, so I'm planning on doing this too before I see a doctor!

  6. This is a great idea! Make sure you're eating lots of veggies too. It's all fine and good to take out the bad stuff, but don't forget to replace with the good stuff!

  10. I tell myself on a monthly basis that I'll do this, and then fail the very next day. Card-carrying carboholic here. Maybe this time it'll stick...
